Silk Reeling Taiji Qigong:
Fluid Movements
for Energy and Balance

Benefits of Silk Reeling Taiji / Qigong
Silk Reeling Taiji/Qigong involves smooth, spiral-like movements that resemble the unwinding and reeling of silk from a cocoon (thus the name). These movements are designed to promote relaxation, balance and harmony, flexibility and improve energy flow within the body. These movements encourage movement in a way that is gentle, mindful, and in tune with the natural rhythms of your body.
Benefits of practicing Silk Reeling exercises include:
- Improve Balance and Coordination: These flowing coordinated movements help to develop a strong root and coordinate the entire body thereby improving both physical and mental balance. Practicing these movements can help prevent falls and improve stability so you feel confident walking on uneven terrain, like a rocky trail or a cobblestone street; or so you feel steady and grounded while playing with your kids or grandkids.
- Flexibility and Range of Motion: The flowing, circular motions of Silk Reeling movements gently open the joints of the body improving range of motion, enhancing flexibility and reducing stiffness. This means you can reach for items on a high shelf with ease, bend down to tie your shoes without discomfort, or even enjoy activities like gardening or dancing without feeling restricted. It's about moving through life with great freedom and fluidity, reclaiming freedom in your body for the things you love.
- Stress Reduction: The smooth, flowing movements and focus on spirals can be meditative and calming promoting relaxation and mindfulness. The slow, deliberate movements and focused breathing can help reduce stress and anxiety, which translates into handling work challenges with calm and clarity - whether it's navigating a tough meeting or managing a tight deadline with a clear and composed mindset.
- Enhanced Energy Flow (Qi): The spiraling movements of Silk Reeling are believed to facilitate the flow of qi, the vital energy, throughout the body. This can lead to increased vitality and overall well-being so that you wake up feeling vibrant and ready to tackle the day - whether it's driving into work, caring for loved ones, or pursuing your passions with focus and enthusiasm.
- Strength and Endurance: While Silk Reeling is a low-impact exercise, it can still build strength and endurance over time. The continuous, flowing movements engage various muscle groups and promote muscle tone. This means you'll notice more stability when carrying groceries, greater stamina for long walks or hikes, and improved strength for everyday tasks like lifting a suitcase or playing with your kids. It's about cultivating a body that feels capable and resilient for the demands of life.
- Mind-Body Connection: Practicing Silk Reeling promotes focused attention on the movements and breath. This cultivates a strong mind-body connection, leading to increased mindfulness and body awareness. This means you might find yourself being more present during daily activities, like savoring the taste of your morning tea or coffee, feeling the rhythm of your steps during a walk, or even noticing how your breath naturally calms you in moments of stress. It's about creating a deeper awareness of how you move through and experience life.
- Improved Posture: Silk Reeling exercises emphasize maintaining an upright, aligned posture which can help address posture-related issues and overall alignment. This means you might notice less tension in your neck and shoulders after a long day at the desk, or experience fewer aches from standing for extended periods. It's about carrying yourself with confidence and ease, every single day.
- Holistic Wellness: Silk Reeling Taiji/Qigong promotes overall holistic wellness by addressing physical, mental, and energetic aspects of health. This means you might feel your body moving with greater ease, experience sharper focus during your workday, or notice a sense of calm and vitality that carries you through life's challenges. It's about creating a balanced, vibrant state of being that supports you at every level - mind, body, and spirit.

Step Into Health and Harmony TodayModule 1: Singular Serenity. Radiant Spirit Returns.
Single Arms Lead the Way
In this module, you will learn the basic principles of Silk Reeling and the locations of important energy points we will be referring to.
We build from the ground up to ensure you have a strong foundation. We start with the movement of the legs and waist. We explore ‘substantial’ and ‘insubstantial’ or the ‘yin/yang’ of weight distribution and consciously explore it. We explore how movement is directed by the waist and from there we build to the extension out the arms, hands and fingers. These basic movements and feelings is how we consciously cultivate a unified, harmonious, graceful way of moving.
By practicing these foundational movements, you'll not only build strength and balance but also unlock a sense of flow and grace that carries into ever aspect of your life.
Module 2: Spiraling Rhythm.
Go Back to Go Forward ~ Releasing & Granting Freedom to the Shoulders
In Module 2, you will continue to explore the movements of the legs and waist, this time in a front to back direction. You will continue to explore how these spirals move from your feet (root), though your legs to your waist and out your arms to your hands.
Also, in this Module, you will learn an exercise for releasing stress and tension in the shoulders. Releasing tension in the shoulders isn't just about physical relief - it's about unlocking freedom in your entire being. When you release that stress, you create space for better posture, deeper breathing, and a sense of lightness that ripples through your body and mind. It's like shedding a weight you didn't even realize you were carrying, allowing you to feel a newfound lightness and freedom and to move with greater ease grace - not just in your practice, but in your daily life. This release not only enhances your physical practice but also empowers you to show up in life with more confidence, presence, and joy - ready to embrace the things you love most.
Module 3: Flex & Flow.
Liberating the Knees ~ Bending & Moving with Fluidity
Module 3 focuses on your knees. You will learn about the knee joint and how we use the Silk Reeling exercises to strengthen the knees and help them maintain their range of motion. The knees are a critical part of fluid movement - they're like the hinges that allow us to flow through life with ease. The knees are also about creating a foundation for more confident, pain-free movement in all areas of life. By focusing on the knees, you're not just improving their strength and flexibility - you're unlocking the potential for more graceful, grounded movement that supports your entire body.
Module 4: Harmonious Arc. Circles of Fluidity.
Rolling the Shoulders ~ Elbow Circles of Elegance
Module 4 focuses on the upper body - the shoulders and elbows. You will learn two exercises to aid mobility and release tension in these two areas of the body. The shoulders and elbows are often overlooked, but they're key to unlocking freedom and fluidity in movement. They are not just about mobility, but about creating a sense of openness and grace in how we carry ourselves - both physically and emotionally. By focusing on these areas, you're not only enhancing your range of motion but also reclaiming a sense of lightness that allows you to move through life with confidence and ease.
Module 5: Thread the Needle & Stitch the Fabric.
Moving in Unity ~ Integrating the Whole
Module 5 is where we put it all together. You will learn an effective Silk Reeling exercise to help unify the body as a whole.
